To Whom It May Concern,
I am a second year political science major at Dillard University. I am currently enrolled in an African World Studies course where the objective is black New Orleans . For a research project my professor has instructed me to do a directory of black New Orleans and I have chosen you to be in it. The directory will be used as a reference for the some of the most elite and power citizens in New Orleans at the present time. In order to make this directory successful, I will need the following information:
A brief, but detailed biography; (Example: Where did you go to school? Where did you grow up?) and a recent photograph An in depth summary of your profession and/or organization Why did you choose, or how did you get in this profession? What other activities of organization besides your own, are you involved in? How are your profession and/or organization beneficial to the recovery of New Orleans ? Contact information With these questions answered and with any additional information you would like to include, this directory will definitely be a success. Thank you in advance for your participation. Please get in contact with me as soon as possible via email, kevin_hagan@yahoo.com or telephone 504-858-8398.
Sincerely,
Kevin J. Hagan, Jr.

I live in Dallas Texas and was told that you all would be appearing at the Brooklyn's Jazz Cafe for Labor Day weekend. I am from New Orleans and I am very much looking forward to seeing you all play at Brooklyn's, if this is true. They don't seem to know if you all are actually going to perform there. This is my birthday weekend and I need to know if you will be there, if so how much is it to attend the performance.

Wassup Reggie Bush?? hey bruh, thank you and the band for your time and appearance on my debut CD, to be released soon. It was truly a blessing. I just made it back home from Tokyo/Kishiro, Japan where I performed for a week with the New Birth Brass Band. I just want to personally tell you how elated I am to see you back under that tuba, doing your thang. A lot of people say you were not going to make it, and believe it or not but there are some out there that still say you should give it up, but I told you everyday in the hospital that God had a plan for you, and as long as he is for you those against you won't prosper. I love you man, and the Rebirtth brothers as well. " I tell you no tale, I tell you no lie, I'm a REBIRTH BROTHER til the day I die. Peace and Love... FLEE

rebirth was one of if not my single favorite musical performance of my whole life. it was at tipitinas, a few miles out of the french quarter. after suffering through a mediocre and loud opening band that played forever, rebirth came on, and the mc said a few words, including that it had been a long time since they had played there so they were "gonna tear the roof off this motherfucker." then they got started. three trumpets, tenor sax, two trombones, sousaphone, snare drum with cymbals, marching bass drum, and a percussionist. and a tightly packed, young, multicultural audience, all dancing their ass off. you know the type of music so i dont have to explain - but the show never really got quiet. if a song had a noticeable end, another quickly ensued with no silent break. the drummers are in perfect sync the whole time with great syncopation in the bass drum. the snare player edged out one of the trombonists as my favorite performer. amazing and flawless technique. lots of attention righteously went to him. and with all his solos, which were all amazing, he never, never, even came close to dropping the beat or doing anything at all unintentional. the speed and steadiness were just out of control. the best ive seen. there were two trombones, one great, the other sensational. and they dueled, which was really no contest. the best guy had a fast tounge. but they both had great rhythm and great lines. the trumpet players were great. one was the mc, and the mc shit was the best thing to come out of the trumpets. he would engage the audience in chants and he was revving us up the whole show. there were lots of sections with just drums and tuba, or maybe just drums and a rhythmic solo by the tenor sax. then the whole band would come in, sending the audience into euphoria, although i never really left that state for the whole show.

I have a recording of a Rebirth song that i can't seem to find the title to. It features a female singer. Main lyrics are: "Don't let them stop the music, don't you let them, let them, let them." It basically talks about people discouraging the old style of music, but they/she say no. Any idea who the woman singer is and the title of the song???

Graduate student researching jazz funerals, I came across the Keith Reynaud documentary online in "Southern Spaces", "Let Me Do My Thang-Rebirth"; I'm interested in how jazz funerals are situated in today's culture in New Orleans now, overtime, their signifignace in relation to Hurricane Katrina as well as understanding the music used in jazz funerals and how the music changed overtime. In summary, I am curious about the social function and understanding the music. Any information/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Saw you all at Lundi Gras celebration. I was center stage about 2 to 3 people away from the stage and it was a blast. Then there was a man that lost his son and they stopped you all to make the anouncement. I'm glad they stopped the show to make the anouncement for the childs sake but what an irresponsible fool to lose his kid like that. Look forward to you all coming to Los Angeles again. I will be checking your calender.

I’ve always enjoyed your work since the first time I heard you at the Maple Leaf years ago. I was at your Howlin’ Wolf performance last Mardi Gras and I’ll be there again. It’s these goodwill events that really make your fans want to promote your music.
I don't mind if ya’ll play late again......just know the later it gets the drunker and more obnoxious I get!
